A nice weekend to get stranded.....

With a weekend sort of free...not really because Sharon has to keep in pretty close cel contact, we decided to hit the local road.

One of our fave places is about 30  K's east of Terrace.  There is a Rest Area, and just west of that, a logging bridge and beside that a great bench of land, just made for a fire and a quiet night. Only the Skeena River was rising....

There were some people parked at the far end....keep this in mind..they show again later on.

I am parked the next morning, just at the bridge taking the pictures and video. Ultimately, we didn't overnight here, but moved down the road just a bit onto a nice grassed area opposite the actual Rest Area and went back in the morning to see where the river had come up to. Although, as it turned out, we would have been okay, there would have been no sleep for worry, so why do that....

We left the night spot and headed west to Terrace...the Farmers market was in full swing. It was +27 and that seemed awfully hot.

I treid talking Sharon into a pair of red feather ear rings....nope.

There is a guy in Terrace that carves into the bark of cottonwood trees in Ferry Island Park. He has now branched out....(arf arf)....I was really taken with some of these carvings on the bark.

We were hungry and motored along, to make some lunch at the boat launch on the Skeena just west of town. Looking at the high water, one  might have thought to themselves....wow, that sure is high water...must be really getting high now.....

The people that were at the bridge Friday night..remember them? they told us about this great rec site 5.5k's up on the Exstew River, about 40k's west of Terrace. Well..let's go look at that then, on our way to supper in Prince Rupert.

This is the guy's rig...we are just talking....

And Sharon makes the command decision...never mind Rupert, "I (she) want to stay here". Yeah..okay...first we need to drive back out the highway and east a bit to get cel service, to cancel reservationns for supper and for her to talk to a sales associate in Kitimat...all gets done and we head back in.

The river bank campsite is so to-die-for gorgeous.

At 10:30pm....

So....the guy? as he was packing to leave, I saw him with a bag...I thought he was buring it, but nope...he just left it there. A member of the CCG....thanks a bunch Gord. Don't worry tho....we cleaned up the mess that was made after the birds got at it.

And then we discover that the water has risen so high...we can't get out...stranded for 24 hours...no big deal, but still....if I had been thinking back at the bridge.....

This is where the water came up to at the deepest part. I had engaged 4 wheel drive and just steamed right thru.

If you look, you will see one of 5 compartments...a wee bit of water got in, so I unloaded them..put in fans and dried it all out. I wasn't concerned with them..they are aluminum, but I was really watching for water to the floor line...didn't even come close.

One last thing....there was a group of 20 people that were also held back..and they were kind enough to invite us in for supper and the evening fire. It was free of bugs...and this is why.....they had one stuck into the ground and the 20ft circle was..like...bug free!!! I hate the chemicals invollved but..if you are looking for a good bug be gone, item.......
