Bishop and eastwards....to Bog Hot

After leaving Rainbow Valley...we headed to Bishop...via Drawin, just for luck. A former mining town now populated with miners, for sure, but also artists..people that have chosen a quiet place to live their dream.

We spent a night in Bishop and off again...and as we go...looking at the map...we see a Burro Refuge..the Marietta Range...and lo and behold, we go by and there are a bunch of them...

We cruise along in Nevada and the weather is getting colder and colder. We see a sign for  Lahonton State Park. Great spot on a lake....only the place is just a minefield of soft sand. We were able to spin the wheels enough to get situated for the night and come morning, it was 4hi to get out. God, I love 4 wheel drive in this thing.

Next morning we are winging our way to Carson City.

We spent a couple hours...Coscto....and headed to Reno. Had no idea of the craft beer scene there. First place was Lead Dog and they had some great beers.

Just so happened my daughter, who was skiing in Japan sent me a FB post.... they too were sipping craft beers in Sapporo.

...then we went to The Depot...the former railway depot...duhhh....and let me tell you...both those places served killer beers but the Depot...a joint beer and distillery with food to rob for. We had two food groups.. Ceaser salad that actually had real anchovies..like maybe 5? strips...across the top so one could pick them out if they weren't your thing. And Haddock fish/chips...and both items were that good.

 And off we went..heading east....

There is a wild burro protected area...Marietta...and damned if almost the whole herd of 109 weren't out to say hello.

We menage to get to Winnemucca and get gas...and if you ever need that and an RV dump/water? The Mavericks has all that and more...free dump!!!...

Heading north up 97..a bit of a daunting bit of roadway. Very long and lonely...but there is a reason for the route. I am taking the red head to the Bog Hot, hot springs.

Out in the middle of the desert....

This is the view next morning as we drive thru Harney County. If you go this way...you'll find only one gas source...Fields Station..just north of Denio.
